Frequently asked questions
Which cryptos can I gift?
The Gifting Crypto feature currently supports bitcoin (BTC) only.
Gifters are able to send bitcoin from their trading balance, with more cryptos on the way.
How much does it cost to gift crypto?
There is no additional transaction fee when sending BTC through Gifting Crypto.
Who can use Gifting Crypto?
All fully-verified Singapore or Hong Kong based Gemini users with an available bitcoin trading balance.
Who can receive a gift?
The recipient must be 18 years or older and be based in Singapore or Hong Kong with a fully-verified Gemini account in order to redeem the gift.
What if the recipient doesn’t have a Gemini account yet?
The recipient does not need to be a current user in order for the gifter to send bitcoin. However, the recipient will have to create a Gemini account in order to access the gifted bitcoin.
Should the recipient choose not to create an account or fail to fully-verify their account within 30 days, the gift will be returned to the gifter’s trading balance.
How will the recipient be notified of the gift?
The recipient will receive an email from Gemini with the gift message and amount.
How long will it take for my gift to be delivered?
The recipient will be notified after the gift has been sent.
Once the recipient successfully redeems the gift, they will see the gifted amount in their BTC balance.
Please allow up to 15 minutes after the gift has been redeemed for the full amount to be reflected.
What happens if the recipient doesn't accept my gift?
The gift will be returned to your account if the recipient does not redeem the gift within 30 days.
Please allow up to 15 minutes for the revoked gift to be reflected in your trading balance.
Can a gift be cancelled?
You are able to revoke the gift until it has been redeemed by the recipient.
Submit a request to cancel your gift under “Depositing and Withdrawing” at our Help Desk.
What if I want to give a gift but don’t have any bitcoin?
You are only able to gift the bitcoin that you hold in your trading balance.
Once your Gemini account is verified, you will be able to link a bank account and transfer funds into your Gemini wallet in order to purchase bitcoin.
Is there a limit on the amount that I can gift?
Users may send between 0.0001 - 0.01 BTC in a single gift (equivalent to approximately $5-$500 USD).
How does the recipient redeem the gift?
The recipient will receive an email from Gemini with the gift details.
If they have an existing Gemini account associated with that email address, they can redeem the gift by following the link in the email and logging in.
If they do not have a Gemini account yet, they can follow the link in the email to create an account and redeem the gift. Alternatively, if the recipient does have a Gemini account but it is linked to another email address, they will be able to copy the gift code and insert it into their Gemini account.
